summers are for family vacations

We took family road trips nearly every year when I was growing up. My husband and I take short road trips when we can. It’s fun to see the change in scenery as we pass through various towns and states. We try little cafés along the way or stop to photograph or tour unusual sites. We have to be frugal about any trips we take, which is why we love travel perks.

This summer, Choice Hotels is offering travelers a $50 gift card after two separate stays when travelers sign up for the Choice Privileges rewards program. Just stay twice now through August 15, 2012, to earn the gift card.

Choice Hotels International did a study on family vacations in May. This summer 20 percent of Americans are traveling more than last year, according to their survey.

“Industry data shows that consumers are regaining confidence in the economy and more families are taking a vacation this year compared to last year,” Michael Murphy, senior vice president of Cambria Suites, said. “It’s safe to say that the great tradition of the summer family vacation is on its way back.”

Family trips can be great ways to build memories and expand horizons. Among Americans who take family vacations, 65 percent say there is nothing better than a great family vacation.

Do you take road trips with your family? Where have you been this summer? Any plans for upcoming travels?

  1. Travel is a part of the educational experience parents should provide. All children should visit the beach, mountains, desert, forest by the time they are in third grade because it adds to their understanding when they read stories in those settings. They also need to ride in a plane, taxi, bus, boat, train for the same reason. Travel can allow all of that to happen!
