Every Fourth of July, many of us celebrate with family and friends. We enjoy barbecue, hot dogs and, of course, fireworks. Check out these five 2012 Independence Day events in and around DFW. Whether you want a little taste of history or one of the top fireworks shows in the country, these events will deliver.

Kaboom Town!

Kick off Independence Day early with Addison’s popular Kaboom Town. The event takes place 5 p.m. to midnight July 3 at Addison Circle Park. The Dallas Observer ranks this the Best Fourth of July Fireworks Show in DFW and Forbes includes Kaboom Town in its Top 10 Best July 4th Fireworks Displays, so you know it’s going to be good. Live music and an air show lead up to the 30-minute fireworks celebration, scheduled for 9:30 p.m. After the fireworks, Emerald City Band will take the stage for more live entertainment during the after party. Admission is free, so arrive early to snag a spot.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 4, visitors can find out how Dallasites celebrated Independence Day from 1840 to 1910. (Think ice cream, stick pony races and tours of historic buildings.) Parking is free and pets are allowed as long as they’re leashed. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children ages 4 to12.
