Put on your stretchy pants and grab a few foodie friends for the TX Food Truck Fest this weekend. The fun begins Friday, May 11 at Valley View Center Mall in Dallas. You’ll need those stretchy pants because dozens of trucks will dish out everything from baked goodies to BBQ.
Be sure to check out Gandolfo’s New York Deli Dallas. The food is a mouthful just like their name, so get extra napkins. I can recommend the Gandy’s “Second City” Dog, which is a 1/4 lb. Nathan’s hot dog on a hero roll with tomato, pickle, onion, relish and spicy mustard. It isn’t first-date food, but it’s delicious and totally worth getting your hands messy.
On my list of things to try at the festival: Carolina BBQ pulled pork mini-wiches from Three Lions; shaved ice (so many flavors to choose from…) from Enticed; and fried zucchini from TX Delizioso. There are so many trucks to choose from, I’m sure I’ll try lots more.
The fun Saturday begins with a Dash & Dine 5k, if you want to work up an appetite before stuffing yourself. General admission (with a wrist band) for the festival is $5 with 15 percent of the proceeds going to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Kids under 5 get in free. Parking is free.
